Jaime Ashby is an experienced lawyer and a partner practising in the solicitors’ group at North Shore Law.
Her practice includes corporate law, commercial transactions, estate planning, estate administration, and conveyancing. Jaime helps families and businesses navigate legal complexities and plan for the future.
Many of the firm’s clients have been with North Shore Law for years, if not decades. Jaime enjoys assisting clients with diverse needs that evolve over the course of their relationship with the firm. While today a client may need to incorporate a company, next year that company may grow, and acquire an additional business; the following year may see the client requiring estate planning services, and then later purchasing a home. Jaime has the knowledge to provide assistance in all of these areas. This allows her to build deep, ongoing relationships with her clients.
Estate administration is an area that Jaime’s practice has seen expand in recent years. She has extensive experience with the administration of complex estates. She frequently deals with multi-jurisdictional issues, such as overseas assets and non-Canadian beneficiaries, executors, and administrators. While the administration of estates can often be overwhelming for clients, particularly in contentious estates, Jaime has the experience and knowledge to help clients navigate any complexities that arise. Jaime also actively assists the firm’s estate litigation lawyers on many of the estate matters involving disputes or other matters that require court resolution.
Jaime started her career in Kamloops, British Columbia. While her preferred area of practice has always been solicitors’ work, she has practiced in other areas and even appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in the criminal case of R. v. Beatty. The same week that she appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada she graduated from her LLM in Taxation Law from Osgoode Hall: a prime example of her diverse legal experience and knowledge.
Jaime is a Director of the Lawyers Assistance Program, an organization that helps lawyers in British Columbia that are struggling with addictions, mental health issues, or other job-related matters. Before becoming a Director, she had been a volunteer with the LAP for 12 years, and her experience with the organization has impacted her legal career significantly. Jaime is a mother of two wonderful children; she enjoys the challenge of balancing the raising of kids with a full legal practice.
