Betty Lin is a family lawyer, criminal lawyer, and estate litigation lawyer with a family focus. Betty is also a family mediator and parenting coordinator.
In addition to English, Betty is proficient in Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, and Taiwanese, and has assisted clients of various cultures and languages for over 10 years.
Betty approaches her practice in a collaborative manner, exploring settlement options when possible, utilizing the processes of negotiations, settlement conferences, mediations, and/or arbitrations at the appropriate times. Betty has facilitated settlement of many cases and has negotiated many diversions and plea deals with the Crown in her criminal practice.
When court intervention becomes necessary, Betty does not hesitate to advocate her clients’ interests in all levels of court. Betty has experience dealing with family matters involving multiple jurisdictions and has helped families to navigate through the complex legal process. Betty also has extensive experience negotiating and drafting cohabitation, marriage, separation, and asset protection agreements, including complex agreements dealing with oversea assets, family trusts, and anticipated inheritance.
In addition to practising as a lawyer, Betty is an accredited family mediator and parenting coordinator. As a family mediator or parenting coordinator, Betty assists separated families manage their emotional and financial stress and steer the parties towards a mutually acceptable resolution of outstanding family issues.
Betty recognizes the importance of access to justice and she volunteers at the North Shore Women’s Centre as well as works with various multicultural organizations to provide pro bono legal advice in legal clinics, workshops, and lectures.
Outside of the office, Betty is a badminton enthusiast and enjoys a nice hike.
