Mark
Slay
Mark
obtained a B.A. from Simon Fraser University in 1980. He graduated from
the University of Victoria Law School in 1983 and was called to the
Bar in British Columbia in 1984.
Mark
restricts his practice to litigation, specifically in the area of family,
criminal and insurance law matters. He has appeared at all the levels
of Court in British Columbia.
In
the area of criminal law, he has acted discreetly for clients charged
in complex matters and has conducted a significant number of impaired
driving cases. He is also retained on an ad hoc basis to act as Crown
Counsel in prosecution matters.
Mark's
family practice involves considerable trial and chambers experience.
In addition to this aspect of practice, he is involved in the preparation
and completion of marriage and separation agreements. He also participates
in alternate dispute resolution and is a family law mediator.
In
his civil and insurance law practice, Mark has appeared for clients
at hearings of the Real Estate Council of British Columbia and the British
Columbia Commercial Appeals Board. He is also frequently involved as
counsel in mediation hearings.
He
has been a lecturer with the Continuing Legal Education Society and
the Professional Legal Training Course concerning family law and criminal
law issues. Mark is also involved in a number of professional and community
organizations. In particular, he is a member of the Trial Lawyers Association
of B.C. and has been an active member of the CBA, having served on Provincial
Counsel and various committees. He is a past President of the British Columbia Rugby Union.
