Rob was born and raised in Vancouver, attending Magee High School and the University of British Columbia. He obtained his BA in 1968 and LLB in 1972. His law practice has focused on civil litigation including personal injury claims, insurance litigation, commercial litigation and maritime law. He has appeared at all levels of Court in British Columbia as well as the Federal Court of Canada.
Rob is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Vancouver Bar Association and the Trial Lawyers Association of BC. He has served as Chairman of the Maritime Law sub-section of the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and was one of the co-authors of the original edition of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Practice Manual.
Rob played rugby with the Meraloma Club, the Legends Rugby Club and the University of British Columbia. He has served as a Director of the Meraloma Club and is a member of the UBC Sports Hall of Fame. He continues to support the athletic programs at UBC.
His other interests include boats and boat building, music and theatre. He was a cast member in the 2010 Lawyer's Show which performed Shakespeare's As you Like It - a fundraising event for Carousel and Touchstone Theatres. His is in the 2011 production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He has performed with two North Shore choirs: in the past with Harmony Mountain Singers and currently with Espiritu.
